A Message from Edd de Coverly, Chief Executive

Thank you for your interest in our Director for Housing and Communities (Deputy Chief Executive) role.

As a Council we have the great privilege to serve the fantastic communities of Melton, in the heart of rural Leicestershire and renowned Rural Capital of Food. The last year has been like no other, and I have been immensely proud of the way the Council and communities have worked together to respond to the pandemic. Our Community Support hub has provided humanitarian support throughout and we have distributed millions of pounds in business grants. Our magnificent team has gone above and beyond to save lives and protect livelihoods. We have maintained services throughout, adapting to the additional challenges of remote working and in many cases, juggling home schooling and caring responsibilities too.

Whilst responding has been our priority, we have ensured we remain focussed on the future and our recently approved new Corporate Strategy incorporates our ambitions for Melton as well as the ways we will help our communities reset and recover from Coronavirus. With £50m funding secured from the Department for Transport, the delivery of a ‘game-changing’ relief road will unlock thousands of new homes for the borough. We want to build new communities and strengthen existing ones, and I am looking for a Systems Leader who can establish positive and influential relationships with our partners to ensure we do this.

Housing is a top priority for us and through our Housing Improvement Plan, over the last 12 months, we have made significant investments in our landlord services. We are making good progress, but there is more to be done and we want someone to lead our newly established and developing teams to deliver a high quality landlord service we can be proud of, as well as ensure we expand our stock through new Council homes.

We pride ourselves in providing high quality ‘people-focussed’ services to our residents and have a track record for innovation and delivery. Our residents and customers always come first, and I want the new director to lead on ensuring the customer experience across all our services is first class; using cutting edge technology to help where it can. We also need to ensure we incorporate all we have learned through our Community Support hub into how we do business day to day.

Our positive culture and the way we do our business really matters and ensuring you have the right attitude, skills and behaviours will be as important as your knowledge and experience. As deputy I will want you to lead the Council in my absence and assist with our strategic responsibilities more generally, whilst also leading and supporting your teams to ensure effective operational delivery. As we anticipate the easing of restrictions, we are developing a new operating model, seeking to sustain the benefits of flexible, home-working, whilst recognising the importance of strengthening relationships by working together, as one team, at our Parkside offices. Whilst remaining adaptable to future challenges, I want you to bring imagination and flair as we ensure the organisation is ready to thrive in a post-lockdown world and be solution-focussed as you work closely with Elected Members.

This is a great time to be joining Melton and to make your mark. So if you want to join a great Council and work with an ambitious team in a positive, flexible and ‘can do’ culture then we would love to hear from you! Best of luck,

  Edd de Coverly
